Helping to Heal Little Zippy
Zippy was trying really hard to live up to his name, but his broken leg wasn't much help. He’s a delightful little dog and it's easy to fall for him. He’s eager to please and works really hard for belly rubs.
This little American Eskimo-Pug mix came to the Wisconsin Humane Society in May with a severely fractured front leg. Animal control found him as an injured stray, so we don’t know how the break happened, but they recommended him to us for care and fortunately he ended up at the right place.
After a thorough examination and a round of x-rays, WHS veterinarians determined that Zippy needed immediate specialized surgery. Little Zippy was an ideal patient during his operation. A steel plate was inserted into his leg, which helped speed up the healing process. The plate ensured a stronger bond between the two broken pieces of bone. His leg was then wrapped in a festive blue cast.
Zippy is a cheerful and gregarious dog and despite the painful ordeal he’s been through, he was thrilled to visit with staff and volunteers. After surgery, he wanted to run in circles and chase tennis balls, but his activity needed to be restricted until his bones healed and as a result, he convalesced quietly at WHS.
The Wisconsin Humane Society needed help to fund Zippy’s care. The cost of his surgical procedures, medical care, food and adoption services were about $3,000. Thanks to the generous donations received and expert medical attention, Zippy recovered well.
Zippy's new family includes two human parents and a canine brother who loves to play with his new buddy!
