Welcome to CANINES CARE: a team for dogs owners and all those who wish to support the great work of WHS.
WHS has a range of capabilities and a proven track record that sets it apart. Unlike nationally advertised animal welfare organizations with no facilities in SE Wisconsin, WHS operates shelters, clinics and numerous programs in our community. As the largest and oldest animal welfare organization in the State, it has the capacity to perform emergency, large scale save and rescue missions of companion and wildlife animals from horrible conditions as demonstrated time and again.
The facts speak for themselves. In 2016
More than 10,000 companion animals were adopted from WHS.
7,086 children participated in ongoing educational programs designed to teach compassion, respect and responsible care for animals.
Performed 16,489 surgeries, conducted affordable vaccine clinics for hundreds of animals and operated the community's first high volume/low cost spay/neuter clinic.
5,673 wild animals were cared for at the WHS wildlife rehabilitation center.
Ran programs to end animal abuse---a known precursor to child abuse.
Cared for at risk pets of victims of domestic violence.
Helped feed pets of families in need.
In 2016 WHS again earned the highest rating (four stars) awarded by Charity Navigator, America's largest independent charity evaluator.
WHS relies on community donations and receives no general government funding. You can help WHS continue its good work by (1) sponsoring the Canines Care team's walk by clicking on the Donate to Participant button on my personal page (2) registering to join the team to walk or run on June 25 by clicking on the Join My Team button at the bottom of this page or better yet, (3) doing both!
