Nov 15, 2009 - Nov 21, 2009

Sunday, November 15, 2009
This event requires a ticket Dog Manners Class 10:30 AM

Thank you for your interest in Dog Manners Class!

This is the start date of a six-week class.

*Class will not be held on Sunday, December 6th due to our Hope's Lights Celebration.  Class will resume on December 13th and graduation will be held on Sunday, December 27th.

Your dog will be taught in a reward based, positive learning environment where he or she will have fun! Upon completion of this class, your dog will have learned many cues such as sit, down, stay, off, leave it, wait at the door, come, walking on a loose leash and other important skills. We will also focus on getting your dog used to touch, brushing and how to get your dog's attention when faced with distractions.

We will teach you the tools to train your dog, including homework that you can practice in between classes.

We will also practice some of the exercises that are required for the Canine Good Citizen (CGC) certification. If you decide you want to take that test with your dog, you may do so with one of our instructors upon completion of the class.

This class is for dogs 5 months and older.

Payment is required for each dog at the time of registration. The fee for dogs adopted from WHS is $105.00 and $125.00 for non-WHS alumni. Tickets are per dog not per person.

VACCINATIONS: All dogs need to be current on their Rabies, Distemper and Bordetella (kennel cough) vaccines by the first class. If you adopted a dog from us, it does not mean that they will have all the vaccinations they need for class, so please check ahead of time. Be sure to bring your vaccination records with you to the first class!

Guardians/Handlers must be at least 18 years old and children under 8 are not allowed to attend.
We limit classes to 10 dogs and provide a trainer and assistant for all classes with a ratio of 1 person to 5 dogs.

** PLEASE NOTE **  DOGS DO NOT ATTEND THE FIRST DAY OF CLASS!!

If you are a volunteer at the Wisconsin Humane Society, please do not sign up on-line, but call Nora Hart at 414-431-6156.

****  PAYMENTS ARE NON-REFUNDABLE ****

If you decide not to attend the class date in which you are registered your payment will be used for the animals in our non-profit facility.       This event requires a ticket Puppy ABC's Class 7:45 PM

Thank you for your interest in Puppy ABC's (Appropriate Behavior Class)! Please be sure to look over the requirements for our program.

This is the start date of a six week class.  Puppy ABC classes meet for 50 minutes every week on the same day and time for 6 consecutive weeks. Enrollment fee is required for each dog at the time of registration. The fee for dogs adopted from WHS is 105.00 and $125.00 for non-WHS alumni. Tickets are "per dog" not "per person".

Your puppy will learn some very important cues like sit, down and wait at the door, with an emphasis on socialization and handling to allow all puppies to be successful, polite adult dogs. This class is a great primer for our Dog Manners Class for dogs over 5 months of age.

We will socialize them to other puppies by having supervised play sessions several times each class period and present new objects, such as agility equipment, to help build their confidence in every class. We will show you some games you can play with your puppy, like Hide and Seek, finding objects and trading for toys. We will help you get your puppy accustomed to handling to prevent them from becoming fearful when they are examined at the vet. We will teach you about dog behavior and help you with the common puppy problems such as housetraining, jumping and play biting. You will learn the tools that you need to train your puppy on your own. You will be given homework every week so that you can practice at home what you learned in class.

This class is for dogs under 5 months of age.

If you are a volunteer at the Wisconsin Humane Society, please do not sign up on-line, but call Nora at 414-431-6156.
