Shelby arrived at the Racine Campus after her caregiver was admitted to the hospital.  The timid little Pomeranian was terrified by the transition, and to make matters worse, she had terribly matted fur that pulled painfully at her skin.

Our team set out immediately to free her of her dense matting.  Even though it made her feel better physically, shelter life was proving to be too stressful for Shelby.  She would cower in the corner of her kennel when we approached her for walks, and she was reluctant to trust anyone. But we so wanted to help her.

Luckily, we have a growing volunteer program, and we were able to place her in a foster home where she could learn to trust a few new people at a time. Shelby slowly came out of her shell to reveal her true personality – she was a master champion at cuddling. When she was ready, Shelby was put up for adoption and in no time at all, she found a loving, permanent home, where she is exercising her profound cuddling skills every single day.

It is because of your support that the Wisconsin Humane Society Racine Campus is able to save the lives of animals like Shelby, and also make the commitment that every animal on our adoption floor has as long as it takes to find a new home – there are no time or space limits on animals in our adoption program.
