May 9 Update: Yay! We have raised the funds for the dental machine, thanks to a very special volunteer and WHS friend. Thousands of animals will be helped by this new equipment. Thank you so much for your generosity!

Dear Friend,

It doesn't sound very exciting, but consider this: in just a few months in 2008, our dental machine was used in over 1,000 dental procedures for neglected dogs we took in that summer. That was a lot of wear and tear on a machine that is typically used in 1,000 procedures in an entire year.

Still today, we perform an average of 3.46 dental cleanings every single day. We routinely see dogs and cats who require teeth cleanings and extractions, which are necessary for their health and well-being.

details.jpg"Dental care is so important to an animal’s health because it improves the overall health and quality of their lives," explains Dr. Jane Pohlman, our head veterinarian at the Milwaukee Campus. "Dental problems can be terribly painful and lead to infection and even more serious health issues."

We need a new dental machine to continue providing top-notch dental care to the shelter's animal guests, and hope you will help.

The new machine we want to purchase is called a Dentalaire UDS Ultimate Mobile Veterinary Dental Station (mfr # DTP00509). It will allow us to provide better and more efficient dental cleanings, ensuring important care and gleaming smiles for our adoptable animals.

The machine will cost us $4,368. We have raised just over $400 so far. Will you consider making a donation of $10, $25 or even $50 to help cover the cost of this incredibly important equipment? You can even sponsor the dental machine in honor of someone and send a special e-card to let them know.

The Wisconsin Humane Society receives no government funding and relies entirely on your support to help animals receive the lifesaving care they deserve. Thank you for your generous support.

p.s. Feel free to forward this to your animal-loving dentist.
