When we first met Waffles, she was living in deplorable conditions. Her home was a dark, damp kennel with concrete floors and no ventilation. Her coat was matted and filthy and her feet were covered in sores from standing in her own waste. Her eyes were so sad. Thankfully, Waffles, along with 93 other animals, was rescued from an organization in Caledonia called Orphan Kanines. She was brought to WHS where she received a bath, a warm place to sleep, and lots of love. During her medical exam, our veterinarians discovered that little Waffles had a congenital heart defect. Without surgery, she could die. Because Waffles required a specialized type of surgery, she traveled to a hospital in Madison to have the procedure. After a few days of recovery, Waffles returned to Milwaukee where she could recover in the loving comfort of a foster home. Today, Waffles spends her days snuggling with her new mom, who adores her. Waffles finally has hope for a much brighter, healthier future.

Hope is an essential part of what we do. Hope propels us forward as we work to create a safer, more humane community for all of us, furry and human alike. We couldn’t do it without you. Please help us kick off the season of giving with a gift to Hope's Lights.
Even a single light will make a real difference in the life of an animal. Together, we can shine hope in dark places and make life better for all of us. You can purchase a light in honor or memory of a beloved companion animal, person, or even a wild animal. Don't miss our Hope's Lights celebrations on Sunday, December 7 at our Milwaukee Campus or Ozaukee Campus.
