Sweeten Cocoa's Day

UPDATE: Thanks to generous support from the community, we have raised the funds necessary to cover Cocoa's medical expenses.  She will continue to heal for 4-6 weeks in a foster home, and will go up for general adoption when she is ready. Any additional donations will help us care for other animals being treated in our veterinary clinic. Thank you!

Cocoa, a 3-year-old Chihuahua, was surrendered along with her sister, Princess, because their previous family simply did not want them anymore.

Why they were so unloved is a mystery. They are both great dogs. Cocoa and Princess have the same shiny coat and dainty features.  They both have affectionate, spunky personalities.  Anybody would be lucky to have either one of them.

Just as Princess sailed into adoption with a clean bill of health, Cocoa hit a roadblock. Our veterinarians discovered that Cocoa had a painful hip problem. The joint was disintegrating, and her femur and hip were rubbing against each other, causing Cocoa to wince as she walked. It would continue to get worse. Cocoa needed surgery.

Cocoa was so brave as she underwent the specialized surgery, and she is expected to make a full recovery.  She is currently recovering in the Intensive Care Unit of the Wisconsin Humane Society. The cost of Cocoa's surgery and medical care is expected to reach about $1,500 and donations are being solicited to cover her special medical expenses.  Can you help cover the cost of Cocoa's special medical needs?

Your contribution of $10, $25 or even $50 will go directly to the care of sweet Cocoa. You can also sponsor Cocoa in honor of a loved one and send a personalized ecard with her photo to let them know. The Wisconsin Humane Society receives no government funding and relies entirely on the support of the community to annually care for 20,000 animals, like Cocoa. Thank you for considering helping this little girl on her road to recovery!
