Therapy Dog Class
Learn what it takes to become an animal therapy team and volunteer in local hospitals, nursing homes, schools and other facilities. This class will help you and your dog practice the skills required for Therapy Dogs International (TDI) registration.
*Anyone is welcome to attend this training class, however specific TDI testing requirements are listed below.
The following policies apply for dog/handler teams before taking the TDI Test:
-Dogs must be a minimum of one year old to be tested.
-The dog must be healthy and current on vaccinations (rabies, distemper, bordetella).
-Dog must have a current license before test date.
-There is NO minimum age for handlers who pass the TDI Test without help. Condition: Handlers under 18 must be accompanied by an adult on visitations and the Registration Form must be signed by a parent or legal guardian.
-TDI Associate Members and their dog(s) may not visit, be registered by, or be active under the auspices of another Therapy Dog-related visitation program, organization, or group other than TDI.
-TDI cannot register service dogs.
-Dogs must already be a graduate of AKC canine good citizen (CGC)or the equivalent to test for TDI.
Trainers and assistants in this class will offer feedback and suggestions for improvement. Each week we will review TDI test items. All dogs should already know sit, down, stay, leave it, wait, and walk on a loose leash. This is not a dog obedience class, it's designed to make the dogs and handlers comfortable with the testing process, answer any questions about doing therapy dog work in the community, the difference between a service dog and a therapy dog, etc.
PAYMENTS ARE NON-REFUNDABLE: If you decide not to attend the class date in which you are registered your payment will be used for the animals in our non-profit facility.
