This all-day program is designed to introduce the concept of rational use of behavioral pharmacology for dogs and cats. Topics covered will include understanding the neurochemicals that will be affected, medication classes and uses, the molecular and neurochemical bases of fear, anxiety, aggression and learning, appropriate choice of medication, monitoring for compliance and side effects, and use in dogs and cats that may have other physiological issues. This course is targeted to trainers, veterinarians and veterinary support staff. Dr. Karen Overall received her BA and MA degrees concomitantly from the University of Pennsylvania in 1978, and her VMD from its School of Veterinary Medicine in 1983. Dr. Overall received her PhD in Zoology from the University of Wisconsin - Madison and completed a residency in Behavioral Medicine at Penn in 1989. She is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Behavior (ACVB) and is certified by the Animal Behavior Society (ABS) as an Applied Animal Behaviorist.
