Alexandra Kurland Presents: The Joy of Clicker Training

Alexandra Kurland will take you through an evening of discovery, helping to answer some of our basic and more complex questions:

  • What brings someone to clicker training?
  • What makes someone an clicker trainer and not just somebody who uses clicker training?
  • What are the pitfalls of mixing positive reinforcement with corrections?
  • How can we support somebody who wants to explore clicker training?  Alex Robyn

After a short intermission, Alexandra will highlight:

  • What is the difference between working with horses versus dogs?
  • Protective Contact: Create a Safe Clicker Classroom
  • Introduce the clicker via the 6 foundation lessons
  • What can you train?

This presentation is geared toward all animal enthusiasts! Whether you share your life with dogs, horses, cats or birds, you will have new insight to take home to your companion. Brand new trainers, experienced practitioners and pet owners alike should expect to take away new perspective that will enhance your relationship with your animal. She is the author of "Clicker Training for Your Horse", "The Click That Teaches: A Step-By-Step Guide in Pictures", "The Click That Teaches: Riding with the Clicker", "The Click That Teaches" DVD lesson series and a new on-line course “The Click That Teaches: Introduction to Clicker Training Horses”.  She has been on the Karen Pryor Clicker Expo faculty since 2003, and she is a regular presenter at the ORCA "Wicked Minds" and "Art and Science of Animal Training" Conference at the University of North Texas.

Ms. Kurland earned her degree from Cornell University where she specialized in animal behavior. She has been teaching and training horses since the mid-1980's. A pioneer in the development of humane training methods, Ms. Kurland began clicker training in the early 1990's. She very quickly recognized the power of clicker training for improving performance, for enhancing the relationship people have with their horses, and for just plain putting fun back into training.  Today through her books, videos, clinics, and many articles, she has become a leading voice in the development of clicker training in the horse community.
