Sweet Honey's Recovery from Surgery
Cats plagued by medical problems sometimes seem to be the most grateful and affectionate of them all and Honey was no exception. The striking orange striped 1-year-old received extensive hip surgery at WHS. Honey didn’t seem to mind the medication, stitches or even his half-shaved rear end! He was rather wrapped up in his duties as model patient. He purred at the sight of any human being, he thanked staff for special treats and crawled into arms to fully express his loving heart. Honey was an absolute lovebug!
Without the medical care provided to Honey, his chances of making it would have been grim. Honey’s rear left leg was completely lame and it was so painful that this gentle kitty wouldn’t even permit anyone to touch his hip. While Honey was under anesthesia for neutering, however, veterinarians were able to take x-rays, which showed a serious hip problem that required complicated surgery.
Honey’s injury required the surgical attention of Dr. Jeff Banwart, a veterinarian specializing in orthopedic injuries. The procedure involved cutting down the ball that fits into the hip socket, so Honey’s hip joint functioned without causing Honey any pain.
Honey was placed in a foster home to fully recover and then he was placed in adoption. The costs associated with Honey’s veterinary treatment, surgery, hospital stay and adoption services cost $1,000. Like all the animals at WHS, Honey depended on donations to provide expert animal care and adoption services. |
