cupid1Our Special Valentine Needed Help!

Cupid came to the Wisconsin Humane Society in a terrible state. Before he reached our doors, his rear left leg had been badly fractured and pins had been surgically inserted to stabilize his leg. By the time he made it to WHS, the pins were broken and his little leg was still perilously fractured. Although Cupid tried to prance around, happy to receive loving attention, he cried when anyone attempted to examine his injuries.

Cupid was sent to a specialist who determined that the little Terrier mix desperately needed advanced surgery to remove the old pins and secure his leg with a steel plate.  The injury had happened long ago, so the bones did not naturally fuse together and Cupid also needed a bone graft.

Cupid's surgery was a success! He came back to us and completed his recovery under the special care of WHS veterinarians. Cupid had to wear a special Elizabethan collar to keep him from irritating the stitches and staples in his rear leg, but he didn't seem to mind. He was placed in foster care for a few weeks and then returned to WHS to find a new home.  The costs of Cupid's complicated surgery and ongoing care were more than $4,000.

After completing his recovery, Cupid appeared on a Fox Pet of the Day segment and was adopted into a loving home.

Update 12/28/2007

Rachel, Cupid's new guardian, reports that Cupid is doing wonderfully in her home! She feels blessed to have Cupid and can't imagine life without him. Rachel thinks that Cupid was a perfect match for her because they both love walks and naps! No one notices that Cupid had leg surgery and that he has a plate in his leg. He walks as if he never had a problem. Congratulations, Rachel and Cupid!
